7QT #21: hummus, books, & football season.

Friday seemed like it would never come this week. Praise the LORD it's finally here! Joining Jen for another week of the quickest of takes!

1.
I love hummus. I really do. I've never ventured out and made my own, but I was known in college to eat it by the boatloads. Seriously, it was my favorite snack pretty much all the time. Sabra hummus was my go-to brand. But the last time I went to the grocery store, the Athenos brand was on sale. I thought, why not? I'll give it a go. Probably should live a little while I get the chance, right?

WRONG. Wrong wrong wrong. Never again will I buy that crap. Not even CLOSE to as good as Sabra. Evil, evil hummus. It just tasted like...grossness.

Lesson learned? Don't stray from your favorites. It is never worth it.

You, my dear and loyal readers, might have noticed that my blog theme has changed. The few of you that there are, at least. Dah dah dah dahhhhhhh! I have been working on it for awhile and finally changed it. After approximately a million google searches so that I had an entire browser of approximately 20 tabs saved for a full two weeks. Google is very helpful but is also a black hole of stuff like that...so I had to give up after awhile and just say, yep, this is good.

You should appreciate my hard work, all for you, my dear readers......oh, who am I kidding, I had a lot of fun doing it.

3.
Kate and I seem to have fallen into a pretty good rhythm when it comes to naps and my work schedule during the day. She used to be able to nap whenever, wherever, but she's finally big enough that she gets too distracted to just be napping next to me.

For some reason I was nervous about putting her in her crib for a nap. I don't know, new mom syndrome? I thought maybe it would make her nighttime sleeping all mixed up if she was also in her crib for at least one of her naps during the day. I was pretty much obviously wrong. The last 3 nights she's been sleeping totally fine even with sleeping in her crib for a good afternoon nap.

She's the best baby in the universe - what can I say?

4.
Most recent season of Parenthood is on Netflix now.
'Nuff said.

I've been reading reading reading like crazy while nursing Kate lately. I think I've read like 4 books in the last two weeks. My favorite so far has been Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.  I never thought I would call a nonfiction book fascinating and currently one of my top favorite books of all time. Since I'm terrible at summarizing books, if you haven't read it here's the official summary:
In this stunning new book, Malcolm Gladwell takes us on an intellectual journey through the world of "outliers"--the best and the brightest, the most famous and the most successful. He asks the question: what makes high-achievers different? His answer is that we pay too much attention to what successful people are like, and too little attention to where they are from: that is, their culture, their family, their generation, and the idiosyncratic experiences of their upbringing. Along the way he explains the secrets of software billionaires, what it takes to be a great soccer player, why Asians are good at math, and what made the Beatles the greatest rock band.
Seriously good if you want something a little non-fiction and a lot fascinating.

6.
Husker Football starts this weekend. First of all, how is it the end of August already? Second of all, YAY! I am super super excited to watch the first game of the season...and possibly more excited to dress Kate up in her Husker onesie and parade her around.

What can I say, I'm a Husker through-and-through. And count on a recap post with adorable red baby-wear in it next week for sure.

7.
Currently jonesing on this tunic and this beauty of a dress from White Plum. Gorg, no?

I don't think I can pull off a peplum but you know what, I can dream. And these are adorable aren't they? I might have to pull the trigger here sometimes especially on that tunic...shhh - don't tell David. David you didn't read this, right? :)

  1. Okay, don't hate me, but I've switched to Athenos. I don't know. I like the taste better than Sabra.
In reparation, I love love love the new blog theme. I'm going to pick your brain so I can employ a less pink theme for myself.
